In a surprising turn of events, design studio MinaLima has announced that they will not be continuing their work on the illustrated editions of the Harry Potter series. The studio, known for their intricate and interactive designs, had previously released stunning editions of the first three books in J.K. Rowling’s series.

In a statement released today, MinaLima revealed that they have not been commissioned to illustrate Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” the fourth installment in the series. This news effectively marks the end of their participation in the project.

The studio expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reimagine the first three Harry Potter books, stating it was “a privilege” to bring their unique style to these magical tales. They also acknowledged the strong connections they’ve forged with readers and publishers worldwide, as well as the collectors they’ve met at various events.

“We thank every single one of you for supporting us and finding as much joy in engaging with our work as we enjoyed in creating it,” the statement read, highlighting the mutual appreciation between the artists and fans.

The announcement has been met with disappointment from the Harry Potter community. Across social media platforms, fans have expressed sadness at the news, with many praising MinaLima’s work and lamenting the loss of what could have been for the remaining books in the series.

This is the full statement:

Many of you have asked us about the timing for the MinaLima illustrated edition of ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’. We wanted to let our readers know that Studio MinaLima has not been commissioned to illustrate the fourth Harry Potter book and will not be continuing our participation in the series.

It was a privilege to reimagine J.K. Rowling’s first three Harry Potter books in the style of our illustrated fairytales, and reach the hearts of Potter fans worldwide. It has been an honour to forge connections with readers and publishers across the world and to have the opportunity to meet so many collectors of these editions at events. We thank every single one of you for supporting us and finding as much joy in engaging with our work as we enjoyed in creating it.

Nevertheless, MinaLima’s departure from the project does not imply an end to the series as the publisher intends to proceed with the interactive and illustrated versions of the Harry Potter novels. In affirmation of this, Scholastic has exclusively shared the following statement with us:

Scholastic is pleased to confirm that we will continue to publish illustrated, interactive editions of the Harry Potter books, passing the baton to a new illustrator for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. We thank MinaLima for their extraordinary work on the first three books in the series. More details and exciting news will be announced in due course.
