The high school edition of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was announced in September, bringing the magic of Hogwarts to high schools and transforming students into witches and wizards.
Hoboken High School in Hoboken, New Jersey, and Riverside School in Barking, London, were selected as the first schools in their respective countries to perform the show. Riverside will debut its version in March, followed by Hoboken High in May.
The “Wands at the Ready” competition was designed to distinguish the most extraordinary schools in each state or territory in the US, affording them the opportunity to premiere the new edition locally. The newly announced victors will unveil their final productions between October 15 and November 10, preceded by several developmental pilot shows in the preceding months.
The pilot programs are essential to ensure that each participating school can effectively convey the magic of the show within their budgetary and technical constraints. Notably, the high school version of the production has been condensed compared to its professional counterparts and incorporates innovative special effects adaptable to any school environment, irrespective of its lighting, sound, or stage infrastructure.
