Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that a Harry Potter TV series is in the works, set to be released on their new streaming service, MAX. CEO David Zaslav made the announcement during a press event held on Wednesday, April 12th. The series will be an adaptation of the original Harry Potter books, and while J.K. Rowling will be executive producer. As of now, there is no information available about the production start date or release date for the Harry Potter TV series. Fans of the beloved franchise will have to wait for further updates from Warner Bros. Discovery to learn more about the highly-anticipated show. Nonetheless, this announcement alone is enough to get fans excited for the future of the wizarding world on the small screen.
The series is described by Max: “The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years. Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series” said J.K. Rowling.
The series hails from Warner Bros. TV, Bronte Film and TV and counts Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts among its executive producers. David Heyman, who produced all eight feature films, is in talks to executive produce. A search for a writer and showrunner continues to be under way.
The release of the Harry Potter TV series on MAX is a significant development for Warner Bros. Discovery’s new streaming service. With the support of J.K. Rowling and the backing of Warner Bros. Discovery, the TV series is expected to be a major draw for subscribers. As the streaming wars continue to heat up, this announcement is sure to give MAX an edge over its competitors, at least among Harry Potter fans.
