The Elephant House suffers fire damage

August 26, 2021

The Elephant House café, the “birthplace” of Harry Potter in Edinburgh, suffered severe fire damage on Tuesday morning.

More than 60 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution and another was treated at the scene.

The front windows are gone and the interior is largely destroyed. It could take months to rebuild the café where J.K. Rowling wrote some of the first chapters of Harry Potter.
